About: Phoenix

J. Phoenix Smith, MSW Ecotherapist, Presenter

Becoming aware of your gifts, and bringing forth your medicine is a way of honoring your ancestors, your highest self, and the earth. The world needs this medicine now more than ever.

As a Social Worker, Ecotherapist, and mentor my life and work is grounded in transformative earth-honoring practices and liberation psychologies that seek to empower, cultivate peace, and facilitate healing and wellness for diverse communities. My work is serving as a guide to help bring forth and facilitate a process that allows individuals to become aware of their gifts through earth honoring practices and therapies.  I am trained in various healing modalities including Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, ancestral healing, holistic counseling and ecospiritual ceremonial healing.  For 20 years, I have been active in social justice movements that address  issues such as  HIV/AIDS, and  health and healing in communities of color on both the East and West Coasts.  I have designed and implemented public health programs addressing chronic health diseases and have successfully written grants totaling over $1 million dollars for community health clinics and community based organizations.

I am also a teacher of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and have conducted health education training and presentations for health providers throughout California. In 2011, I received a grant for an original class I designed called Fertile Ground: An EcoSoul Journey with the ancestors that teaches the fundamentals of ancestor reverence that connect to the spirit of nature for healing and well-being.  From 2010-2011, I led monthly nature strolls for people of color in the Bay Area and since then have presented at local conferences and worked in  collaboration with urban gardening and social justice communities who see the oppression of the Earth as  connected to the oppression of marginalized communities.

I am passionate about making ecotherapy, mindfulness, & earth based healing practices accessible & meaningful for diverse communities to cultivate peace and wellness.

Through EcoSoul I provide ecotherapycoaching, trainings , and presentations  designed to introduce ecotherapy practices as an evidenced based health and wellness intervention for culturally aware programming and service delivery.
